Why does a character's damage drop when leveling up a robot?

A decrease in character damage when leveling up a robot from yellow to red is most likely due not to a bug, but to game mechanics. Although developers usually avoid a direct penalty system (“upgraded A, B became worse”), in a number of games this effect can be caused by the following hidden reasons:

· Changing the basic attack characteristics: When moving to the red level, the robot's main damage scale could change (for example, from physical damage to magic damage or from weapon damage to skill damage). If your character is geared towards one type of damage, and the robot requires or gives priority to another through passive auras, the difference in effectiveness may be mistakenly perceived as a decrease in the overall DPS of the hero.
· Changing enemy damage type: Sometimes leveling up a robot will change its animation or attack type. If the "yellow" robot gave enemies a damage buff (for example, making them vulnerable to the hero's weapon), and the "red" robot instead applies a control (stun) or DoT (damage over time), then the time to kill the target may increase, creating the illusion of a character's damage drawdown, although his "damage number" may not have changed.· Loss of set/equipment synergy: In some systems, strengthening one unit requires reassigning resources. Perhaps, during the transition from yellow to red, the “Absorption” system was activated (sacrificing an old robot to strengthen a new one), and you and the robot “scorched” an artifact or module that was previously hanging on the character. It’s worth checking to see if any of the main character’s support modules are missing from the robot’s equipment slot.

What you can try:

  1. Roll back the changes (if you have a backup copy of the save) and upgrade any other robot from yellow to red. If the hero’s damage drops even then, this is a feature of the current balance patch.
  2. Check the details of the skill description from the red robot. Sometimes the fine print states “While the unit is attacking, the hero recovers strength (cannot attack for 1 second)” or similar conditions that limit the frequency of the hero’s attacks to please the robot.

If there are no such conditions, and this is really an error in calculating damage, it is worth taking a screenshot of the statistics before and after and writing to Fun Formula technical support - perhaps the developers underestimated the character’s base defense coefficients when trying to balance a super-strong robot.
